Chapeuzinho pods release beneficial substances (tannins) into the aquarium water. The effects of these substances are comparable to those of catappa leaves. They lower the pH, have antibacterial properties and also reduce stress. Chapeuzinho pods give the water a brown color and are therefore suitable for creating a black water habitat. Shrimps and other small animals like to hide in Chapeuzinho pods.
